23-year jail sentence for Pastor Jeong… but why are so many people speaking up for him?

Why would the General of the Korean Army, fellow comrades in the Korean War, hundreds of thousands of followers from different walks of life and various countries, put their reputation on the line to speak up for Pastor Jeong Myeong Seok? This would not be the case if he was truly a beast, a criminal, a brain-washer, a cult, and all the other inhumane labels given by the media, stoked by a small group of naysayers. (see video at the end of this article)

Why would there be zero concrete evidence, but only verbal accusations or questionable audio recordings, if what the naysayers said were true? Why do the naysayers need to stoop so low as to utilise a sensationalistic platform like Netflix to stoke negative public opinion against Pastor Jeong in the midst of the trial, instead of giving the court a fair and unbiased setting to make its decisions?

Pastor Jeong was convicted in South Korea based on a downright biased and unfair setting. When people speak up for him, they are labeled as “brain washed” and so regarded as unreliable sources by the court and media. Isn’t the court and media brain-washed (by their own prejudices) as well, and hence unfit to preform its duty of ensuring justice?

People are speaking up for Pastor Jeong because they have genuinely experienced his life and teachings, and are motivated to put their reputations on the line to speak up for the injustice. A 23-year jail sentence means little about whether Pastor Jeong is guilty, if the sentencing is faced with numerous problems highlighted earlier. South Korea, please wake up and sort out your problematic courts and social problems. Cases like Pastor Jeong’s and the suicide of a teacher over unjustified accusations are symptoms of a wider societal fracture that will only lead to a national decline.
